300BO 16" sound level

Post by Cobalt »

Hi all,

When it comes to sound, I've seen some compares of 300BO vs 556, and most of them compare short barrels or suppressors. If the 300BO needs less barrel to burn, how does that compare to 556 in terms of noise and concussion on 16" barrels?

Is there a sound/concussion difference between a 16" 300BO shooting supersonic non-supressed versus the same config in 556?

Thanks

180 grain FMJ 16" barrel carbine gas no noticeable ringing to ears when shot no corno but probably should be around 1000 to 1100 fps
no BHO and FTF half the time.

180 grain FMJ 10.5" barrel pistol gas no crack but noticeable ringing yes to BHO and feeds every time

Thanks but how does that compare to 556? Have you tested the sound?

Not sure if the OP got the answer he was looking for, but I will tell you this: in my 2 16" carbines, the 300 BO has significantly less muzzle blast than the .223. I would never knowingly shoot a .223 w/o hearing protection, but I've shot the 300 twice at game without it, and it's not bad at all.
