Ultra short barrel review NEW UPDATE: Third article page 5

Post by withoutremorse42 »

I have 3 or 4 300 blackout's inbound between 5" and 6.5". Although not truly apples to apples, I'm going to do as close of a comparison between them as I can. Not apples-to-apples in that one company is sending a barrel, another is sending an upper, a third is sending a complete firearm.

What all would you like to see in a comprehensive review?

I have a chrono, will do velocity testing from each barrel with ammo from the same lot
Have a nice rifle rest, will shoot groups at 50 & 100 yards, then 6" steel plate at 175 with best glass I have.

What else would you want to see?

Sound readings for suppressed fire at every length, using the same lower and BCG if possible.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.

That would be mighty nice to get.. I'll look into sound meters. If I can beg/borrow/steal one that's sufficiently accurate, that would be great to include.

Relative sound opinion would still be worthwhile, tho with factory ammo it might harder to tell the difference. Shortest to longest barrel, pretty sure you'll have an opinion. In between it might be harder to say.

I know at some point you can't distinguish how loud, loud is.

Look forward to whatever you find.

There are apps you can download on your phone to measure decibels. I don't know how accurate they are but it should show you whether there is a difference in sound pressure.

Do a flash test suppressed and unsuppressed. Naturally this would require you to be able to shoot at night. It would be interesting to see 4 foot flame balls.

Withoutremorse42,

Are you going to tell us which barrels you’re getting in to test?

I’m looking at the SLR 5”, Baby Blond, and possibly the RTBA 6” for a shorter build.

Which muzzle device has the least amount of blast and noise from the shorter barrels when not suppressed would be interesting.

I'm getting the

Veritas/SLR 5" (both made by Veritas) (whole upper)
V7 6.5" (barrel)
Right 2 Bear 6" (barrel)
Modern outfitters MC6-SD (whole gun)

haven't been able to get past KAK's secretary, she has great power. Emails have gone unanswered, messages unreturned so no KAK in the round up unless someone trades me one

Any updates?

Planning to get one of these barrels for my own build, so looking forward to hearing how each is working.
