Started a load work up with 296 tonight, I have velocity to match the 11FS load in the same 12” barrel. I will try to compare accuracy in the next week or so, but I still have a few other things pending.

2150-2200 fps in a 16” and 1900 in a 8” are probably realistic.

Subscribing/following this thread! Always look forward to what you are up to. I chrono'd some 150 gr FMJ's(M2) yesterday in my 10.5" pistol, 16.4 gr H110 and CCI 450 gave me best accuracy @ 1906 avg. I pushed 'em a bit more but not really what I was hoping for.

110gr. Hornady SP Varmint on top of 23.7 gr (C) of CFE-BLK produced 2132 avg. in the same pistol. This velocity/charge was nearly the same as with the 150 gr Gold Dot in my RARR. I think there are better propellants for the job for light supers. 1680 seems to like the compressed charges more based on SD's and accuracy, particularly with that 150 GD.

Was this at 2.095" COAL? Mind sharing what charge weight you worked up to, to get that velocity?

Dellet, one more question......is the 2.095 measured with a case comparator gauge, or are you measuring the cartridge from the tip of the bullet to the base of the case?

The 11FS overall length from base to tip, COL, is 2.095"

The 296 load is on the hot side, but not ridiculous. Attention to detail is what keeps things safe.

And here's what the primers looked like, they look worse due to lighting in the photo than real life.



This is close enough to a max charge weight that a big enough seating depth or case capacity change could push it over the edge. That's part of the reason I'm not a big fan of 296/H110 with heavy bullets. Not that it doesn't work, but sharing loads can be interesting for someone who just looks at charge weight.

Finally got to test these out on some hogs. Killed 2, but couldn't find the second one due to the tall cotton field we shot him in. I hated to lose him because my son had put the shot right behind the shoulder and was my best chance of recovering a bullet and getting good on-game performance data, he was a very large boar.....around 265 lbs. The first one (pictured) was shot once, just behind the eye. Got complete penetration, with a quarter size exit wound.

This was the 150 gr Speer BLK Gold Dot with 17.8 gr W296 from 16' barrel.

That will do. Good shooting.

Nice size hog. Great to hear one shot kill. Still would like to see what the bullet does upon recovery from a hog. Leaning more toward getting some 150's. Thanks for sharing.
