I don’t think it has anything for lot variations, at least I haven’t seen anything.

The “b factor” is a mystery and may be part of the problem. The Combustion Coefficient seems to have the greatest effect. If I bring it down to 0.8 I get reasonable numbers.

Also, I don’t have the data for 1680. It comes with Lovex, Maxam, Norma, ReloadSwiss, Rottweil and VV.
Run a model for 20-21 grains Norma 200. Set it up so that the fill ratio is 100-105%. Keep loaded length no more than 2.260"

21 grains gives max pressure of 41322psi, MV=1658ft/s, 108% case fill. 105% was at 20.4 grains w/37225psi pmax, MV=1606.

8” barrel, COL=2.26”, 24.1 grains H2O case volume.

Those numbers look close from memory, I will check my load data later and QL.

The other powder you can try is Lovex D037.2. I use that for subsonic.

I posted this response in my thread on 130 gr hot core in the reloading section. Was asking for use in the 300BO. Figured you folks would like to see:

Rather than velocity we use a minimum kinetic energy for expansion on many of our rifle bullets that we make and for this your minimum would be 1000 ft/lbs for a deer sized target and about 1200 ft/lbs for bear and elk sized. With these in mind for minimums you should see great expansion results.

I considered the 150 gold dot but don't think you can get them up to speed enough for expansion, but not sure though. Reason why I am considering the 130 hot core for my 16 inch BO. Trying to find a local store who has a box to test out but no luck so far.

Basically that's a bullshit answer. No other way to put it.

The bullet has absolutely no kinetic energy whatsoever, period, end of story. What gives a bullet energy potential is speed. If a 130 grain bullets needs 1000 pounds energy at impact to expand, that's 1850 fps.

There is a big difference between a bullets ability to expand and lethal energy needed. The 1000 pounds referenced is the general accepted energy needed to hunt medium sized game. It is required in some places to hunt and will be at a specified distance generally 100 yards. Interestingly enough if those places also allow hunting with handguns, there will be a lower threshold at a closer distance. Example 550 pounds at 50 yards. Why can a pistol kill with 550 pounds when a rifle needs 1000? So i'm good to go if I take the stock off my rifle to shoot under powered loads?

Kinetic energy, is available energy. What delivers the potential energy, is whatever stops the bullet. A bullet that has 1000 pounds of potential energy and passes through an object, has not delivered 1000 pounds of energy.

In the above example of 1850 fps for 1000 pounds, sat it does not expand and comes out the other side at 1200 fps it still has 400 pounds of energy. It delivered only 600 to the target. It has to stop completely to deliver the full 1000 pounds.

If we look at the pistol example, most people do not expect an exit wound. That means 500 pounds of energy is sufficient to kill the same deer that was shot with the rifle. That allows for either a pass through or a slower bullet.

And to bring it back to the 150 grain bullet, it only needs 1725 fps to have 1000 pounds energy.

This what I mean about having an understanding of ballistics is as important as being able to hit the target when it comes to hunting

Thanks Dellet. Anyone have any gel tests or hog kills with the 150? Didn't think you could get them fast enough to expand good.

21 pages, 50,000 views and no gel tests?

That's bullshit

Quoting EarthSky here as an example......
"Scientists have confirmed a meteor impact with Earth’s atmosphere over the Caribbean last weekend. The bright flash was detected by by NOAA’s GOES-16 satellite and other meteorological satellites, showing the event occurred on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at around 5:25 p.m. EDT (21:25 UTC) some 170 miles (274 km) south of Puerto Rico. Astronomer Peter Brown, a meteor expert from University of Western Ontario in Ontario, Canada, said that an infrasound station located in Bermuda did detect airwaves produced by the space rock’s impact in the atmosphere. The object is believed to have been a small asteroid, and it was unusual in that it was detected prior to its impact – in the hours before – by the Atlas (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System) in Hawaii. Brown said the impact was:

… consistent with 3 to 5 kilotons (of energy).

By contrast, the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, exploded with an energy of about 15 kilotons of TNT. Both the energy released, as well as the observations made from the Atlas Observatory, suggest the June 22 space rock was about 13 feet (4 meters) in diameter. Originally designated A10eoM1, the rock has now been designated as asteroid 2019 MO. "

Now how did something that small have that much energy ?, as dellet said - speed. Kinetic energy is the measured result, not the reason a bullet expands, speed is. If I could get a bullet to the speed of an asteroid, there be no need for expansion  Harvesting meat would be tough though. Going back to page one, with a picture of that bullet suspended in gel absolutely says it all - it'll work.
You can't beat the mountain, pilgrim. Mountains got its own way.

I just want to add one more thing about kinetic energy for perspective.

A150 Gold Dot with a MV of 2000 fps will have about the same energy at 350 yards as a 357 magnum with a 10" barrel and a 150 grain bullet at the muzzle.

Be aware Speer is making two different 150g GD bullets in 308. Only one of them is 300BLK specific and is designed to expand at the lower velocity.
