Midway is stocking the new 9" uppers and they look good. Bolt carrier is all nickel boron, not just the cam pin. Barrel is 1/7 twist with a pinned gas block! Nice upgrades AAC... very nice.

Robert, any idea when the 12.5" and 16" uppers will be released?

Now please release some AAC lower receivers

I just looked at their listing and it said the bolt carrier was mil-spec- did you see a picture of it anywhere?

Yeah. I think these are the same uppers that have been out a while now. Not seeing anywhere that says the BCG is NiB.

It says:
"A heat-treated, full auto bolt carrier with internal chrome lining and properly-staked gas key houses a Carpenter 158 steel bolt assembly."

Glad to see they are carrying them though.

The carrier and cam pin are Ni-B. The bolt is conventional.

Nickel Boron (Ni-B) UCT EXO coating has a very high hardness and lower friction than either Chrome or Nickel Teflon. There is a base layer of high-phospherous Electroless Nickel which ensures the extreme corrosion protection absent from other Nickel Boron carriers that use a single, thinner layer.

Base material is highly polished before coating to ensure the smoothest surface finish.

Carrier and cam pin dimensions are custom machined to account for the thicker coatings rather than the more common process of simply coating a conventional carrier with a thin layer.

Carpenter 158® phosphated shot-peened bolt to ensure precise dimensions with no concerns for hydrogen embrittlement in the critical lug area.

Special green o-ring tested to not bind even at -40 degrees F.

Extractor spring made from premium ultra-strong wire - low fatigue design ensures the longest possible life.

Extractor pin made from 300 ksi S2 tool steel - not the much lower strength S7 more commonly used.

Properly-staked carrier-key with Permatex® gasket-seal compound ensures no gas leakage.

WOW!!!

Robert you just made me a very happy man. My lower has been ready for a little while now but I was waiting to build or buy an upper till more of the 1:7 barrels were out. Recently I decided to go with the 9" AAC upper and almost bought it when Brownells got them in stock. They quickly were out of stock. I look at that list of improvements and now I feel good about waiting. Your (and AAC"s) attention to detail is astounding. How did you get all these changes past the bean counters? Just kidding. Great job!!! Can't wait to get mine.

I created this for the military and then the project and sales manager agreed to offer it on all models.

Robert,
These are so nice,I might need to get a 16" too. I have a URX III that I would want to change it out for. Is the new gas block just pinned? Or is it pressed on?

Also, will the 12.5's have the same updates?

Thanks!

The gas block is just pinned, not press fit.

All of the barrel lengths are pinned.

All of the uppers are getting Ni-B - but don't assume an upper has it, has pinned, has 1/7 - as there are many distribution channels and not everything gets out at once.

Since my new AAC 16" upper is one of the 1/7", would it be safe to assume that it has all these upgrades? I recently bought it from a site member here, but really havent gotten to shoot it much...
