Why pick the 300 Blackout?

Let me preface by saying that I've built/owned 5 AR's in my lifetime and ended up selling them all for one reason or another. 4 of them were in 5.56 and one was in 300 Whisper. I'm just not overly fond of the 5.56 for some reason and it was quite a chore to cut down all those 5.56 cases to make Whis...

Re: This just in from the ATF

So basically what I got was as long as you strap the brace onto your forearm and shoot that way you're fine but if you put the brace up against your shoulder and use it as a "stock" and get caught then you'll be in deep doodoo. Is that about right?

Re: Hornady 8th Edition Manual, 300 Whisper data for 300 Blackout?

LOL, I've still got some 9x19mm loaded up with some Nosler 124gr HP's that I need to shoot as some Sunny D jugs that I've been saving up to see how it expands. I just kind of figured that the lighter bullets would have thinner jackets and might expand violently on game so that's why I thought a heav...

Re: Hornady 8th Edition Manual, 300 Whisper data for 300 Blackout?

Whisper data and blackout data is virtually identical but Hornady list velocities for a 16" barrel IIRC. In my 8th Edition Hornady manual it's in the Handgun Data and listed as tested in a 10" T/C Contender. As a general rule I always like to stay under max. load listed if for no other re...

Hornady 8th Edition Manual, 300 Whisper data for 300 Blackout?

So can someone look over the loading data for the 300 Whisper in the Hornady 8th Edition loading manual and tell me if it looks like it'd be safe to use the recipes to load 300 Blackout? I've compared some .pdf data from Nosler with similar bullet weights and it look like the Hornady 300 Whisper dat...

Re: So is this cartridge finally going to become more main stream now?

So what about the loading data in my Hornady 8th Edition for the 300 Whisper, can it be used to load 300 AAC Blackout or is it too hot?

Re: Barrels longer then 16"???

There sometimes comes a point where a longer barrel will give you less velocity because of friction imparted upon the bullet. I've see this happen with the 45acp when fired from a carbine length barrel. Depending on the powder being used and the bullet weight at a certain point you stop producing an...

Re: So is this cartridge finally going to become more main stream now?

No, there is no patent. 300 BLK has been in SAAMI for years now. So the Blackout IS Fireball/Whisper length then? My Hornady #8 lists the Whisper at 1.400"(case length) and online I see the Blackout case as 1.368", that's .032" difference with the Blackout being shorter. Also, the lo...

Re: 300BO use inside home?

I would think that 110-125gr bullets loaded super sonic would work well for CQB/Home Defense. At least as well as the 5.56 does and probably a lot better. Save the heavy sub sonic stuff for hunting hogs or using with a suppressor. As always, JMHO, YMMV.

So is this cartridge finally going to become more main stream now?

So, now that this cartridge has SAAMI specs will it finally be legitimate enough to become popular so we can pick up a box of 300 Blackout at the local Wally World? Reason I ask is because several years ago I built an AR in 300 Whisper and there was no factory ammo to be had. Ended up cutting down a...
