Ordered the steel to build an ultra short gas piston system so will document that here as well.

Re: Shortest 300 blk barrel
My bolt doesn’t close without being slammed in. The same bolt works fine with all my other AR’s and closes by itself. I tried lapping it and that didn’t improve it. Any suggestions on how to improve? My default is just to buy a new lightweight bolt but I’m not there yet. Sounds like something in th...

Re: Shortest 300 blk barrel
If this carbon and copper crud doesn't slow down after break in I am probably going to make this into a gas piston design built from scratch to accommodate the short length.

Re: Shortest 300 blk barrel
I would say yes, but can't stand behind it. Partly its computer generated numbers, partly there are too many variables. In can show you how I base the thought and I think it's solid I looked at what I thought was your can. Rated for 308 18" barrels and longer. With that one load that I just pu...

Re: Shortest 300 blk barrel
Here’s some quick and dirty numbers, if you can post some complete load data the numbers will be closer but this works for an idea. You can’t really compensate for the gas port or at least I can’t. The comparison to 40 S&W will get you in trouble. You have the same amount of gas in a cylinder t...

Re: Shortest 300 blk barrel
Sounds great, for a semi-auto gas op gun. It’s no single shot contender though

Re: Shortest 300 blk barrel
I try to bring this up with short barrels all the time, the only number you really need to be concerned with is muzzle pressure. That is what the suppressor has to absorb. If you can get a manufacturer to give you a number it makes it a lot easier, most won't. Based on common loads and barrel lengt...

Re: Shortest 300 blk barrel
Did ladder tests and settled on 7.0 grs of Accurate #5 which averaged 970 FPS. It ran great. Accurate #2 didn’t cycle well at 5 Grs. When cleaning after, it is getting a lot of copper fouling through the gas port and into the receiver and the expansion chamber of the bolt. Some chunks are quite larg...

Re: Shortest 300 blk barrel
5” limit with supers. These are all subs with the energy of a 9mm/.40sw. I would not shoot supers through this.
