Re: New to casting- problems but I think I have the solution
I have used a Lee 1 oz slug mold quite a bit. With WW alloy you will get a better fill and better looking slugs in general, but it is harder on the mold. The center "core" that forms the hollow base and drive key is only pressed into the stamped steel that holds it with the end peened over...

Re: 300BLK Pistol Barrel
Ballistic Advantage barrels are good for the most part, but if you are planning on running a can, the thread relief at the shoulder of their muzzle threads tends to be not the greatest. I have had to use timing shims to get a good alignment with my BA barrels. If you are going to run just a plain br...

Re: WTK: Selecting my 300 aac die set
Netpacker, I do something similar with my 2 single stage presses. I do resizing and bullet seating on my old CH4D single station Magnum H Press. And Lee universal Decapping, Lee Neck Expanding and Lee Factory Crimping on my CH4D multi-station #444 H Press. Yeah, the main reason I bought the Forster...

Re: WTK: Selecting my 300 aac die set
I have Hornady's set and also the RCBS small base set (a friend got out of 300blk and I bought his RCBS dies along with a bunch of factory ammo he had), and I wasn't totally happy with either of them. I found that the Hornady seating die wasn't dimensionally compatible with my Forster Co-Ax press at...

Re: New to casting- problems but I think I have the solution
:D But as to the wheel weights. I have something like 1500# of them (really- 2 55gal drums is how I bought them years ago) and I'm not going to live forever. I think I can spare 30# for buckshot but I doubt that I'll ever need that much. Heck, at this point I want to cast #4 buckshot just because i...

Re: New to casting- problems but I think I have the solution
Success at casting is all about the temperature of the lead and the temperature of the mold. Everything else is just minor details for the most part. But I will say that using wheel weights for making buckshot is a real waste of good alloy that could be put to better use as handgun or rifle bullets....

Re: Depriming/resizing issues with decapping pin. Need help!
Yes, you can resize without the decapping pin, but since the decapping pin in a resizing die also performs the neck expansion function, besides decapping separately you will also need a neck expanding die like the Lyman "M" die. The M Dies are awesome because besides expanding the neck, th...

Re: Ammo shortage
I've never been able to tell the difference between the blems and first run berrys bullets, and i've bought thousands. There are frequently 1 or 2 messed up projectiles in the box that can easily be culled. They always sell out within hours anyway so the link is of no benefit to those who run acros...
