Re: Pursuit of an inexpensive accurate super bullet - 125 tnt speer

My trim length is still within SAAMI spec of 1.348-1.368. Anyone find that accuracy drops off when cases are trimmed to the lower spec? In and of itself, the shorter trim length probably isn't going to have much effect on accuracy one way or another. But as demonstrated by Dellet and 20X11, how clo...

Re: Pursuit of an inexpensive accurate super bullet - 125 tnt speer

Sounds like you have done a lot more extensive testing than I did. My goal was inexpensive range ammo with decent accuracy from my carbines, and once I had achieved satisfactory performance I stopped there. Either way we are only talking about a 15 thou difference in OAL and I wasn't trying to tailo...

Re: Pursuit of an inexpensive accurate super bullet - 125 tnt speer

Yeah, being not specifically designed for blackout, it's a pretty short bullet, and you can't really seat it out as far as you would want to because you are limited on neck engagement. I had initially wanted to use a longer OAL but quickly found that was not practical and 2.06" was as long as I...

Re: Chamfering & Accuracy

I am using a Lyman "M" die for case neck expansion and to give a very slight flare to the case mouth prior to seating the 125gr TNT, and it has worked out well for me. Without the use of the M die, even with chamfered necks, I was getting shaving of the TNT bullets.

Re: Pursuit of an inexpensive accurate super bullet - 125 tnt speer

I fired 3, five shot groups ranging from around 1 to 1.5 moa using this bullet out of my 10" Aero SBR, over 18.5gr W296 and a CCI450. Reformed Lake City brass, same OAL as you are using. Same load, out of my 16" Model 7 bolt action, fist sized groups at 100. It just didn't like them for so...

I didn't see if you mentioned what press you will be using, but if interested, here is a review I wrote up of the MEC Sizemaster I recently purchased:

Re: WTK: Selecting my 300 aac die set

Yeah, if the Lee FCD isn't working for you it's most likely that something else is wrong. You might measure your neck ID although it sounds like your expander is sized correctly. What bullets are you using and have you double checked their diameter? It seems unlikely there would be anything wrong th...

Re: New to casting- problems but I think I have the solution

I don't know about 1 oz moulds. Mine is a 7/8 oz mould the slugs from which are intended to go inside a wad. The center is screwed onto the support and not peened. The slug drops off without any problems. Maybe they changed the mould design? IDK. I'm new to all of this and have nothing to compare i...
