I ran the numbers in QuickLOAD for your 338 Edge and it comes up with the same numbers as the 338 RUM so give 23 grains of IMR TrailBoss a try.

Re: 338 Federal AR

I'd go with a 338 Rem Ultra Mag bolt gun and use TrailBoss to toss subsonic downrange. You'd then have the option to send some seriously nasty supersonic lead way down range too. 23gr of TrailBoss gives 81% case fill and around 1050fps with the 300gr SMK.

Re: 338 Federal AR

I would think that since most 300 BLKs can cycle 175-200gr subsonics then an AR-10 should cycle with a 300gr subsonic in 338 Federal.

Re: Which press?

You can use the RL550B casefeed with 300 BLK and .223. Both of them take the 32 H&R Mag casefeed caliber conversion. You have to cut a slot in the casefeed adapter for .223 and both calibers need the feed ramp modified slightly with a simple file. The XL650 Small Rifle Casefeed plate works perfe...

Re: 338 Federal AR

I plugged in the numbers to QuickLOAD for the 338 Federal 300gr SMK with 12.3gr IMR Trailboss (105% case capacity so slightly compressed) and 2.8 COL . QuickLOAD predicts 1080fps. Trailboss would be way too fast to cycle the AR-10. 18.5 of Accurate 1680 (50% case capacity) gets 1237fps (about the pr...

Re: Which press?

I started with a single stage Hornady 50 cal press but I loaded several calibers with it. I added a RL550B and really like it but it's pretty expensive once you add all the cool upgrades (love the casefeeder). Finally I added a Lee Classic Turret with the index bar. It's a cool little, inexpensive p...

Re: Bolt wont lock open after last round

Lil'gun is hit or miss for cycling AR actions. It's a little too fast to work in all ARs, like A1680 does.

Nice. I use Rainier for my .40 and 10mm bullets. Their hollow points are so inexpensive I use them for my plinking ammo.

Re: New to reloading just because of the 300 BLK

I bought a Lee turret press (about $130) as my 3rd press (Dillon RL550B & Hornady 50 cal) and it's a great little starter press. The turret speeds up loading and makes changing calibers a snap. I use it as my small batch press.

Re: Subs and dirt

I got unburned powder in my 16 inch barreled Handi-Rifle when using Accurate Arms 7 powder with 220gr subs. It's a fast powder and should have been completely burned but it was only taking up about 35% of the case volume so maybe some of the powder was getting "blown out" before it ignited.
