Well, no wins on the powerball so I guess the magical spell has worn off!
I am going to drive across town to Cabelas and buy more Accurate 1680 if they haven't run out!

Christmas time in February
So I think it's Christmas time in February somehow. I guess Santa Claus felt sorry for me as with a new little one who arrived last summer we had a pretty low key Christmas. Yesterday I got a call from my local Class-III FFL that they had the tax stamp back on my 7.62 Saker in only 4.5 months!! 8) :...

Re: Couple of newbie reloading Qs (trying to avoid rookie mistakes)
Thanks again to everyone for all of the great information and advice. I did get a chance to go out to the range this weekend and burn the 80 or so rounds I had hand loaded. All rounds went bang with no problems or malfunctions!  I observe that at the limited 50 yards I was shooting at (fo...

Re: Couple of newbie reloading Qs (trying to avoid rookie mistakes)
So I backed off O.A.L. to 2.025 and after re-seating the bullets into the cases having trouble fitting in the slot gauges, every one of them fits no problem!  Quite a difference in how the cartridges look with the shorter OAL, I'll try to post a picture. When researching "how far sho...

Re: Couple of newbie reloading Qs (trying to avoid rookie mistakes)
Yes, it makes perfect sense to me and you are right it is very confusing. So when making a determination on seating depth, what is a good reference? Should I just aim to seat the bullet at the "tested" OAL that Nosler published for their tests? Also, can I further seat bullets in cartridge...

Re: Couple of newbie reloading Qs (trying to avoid rookie mistakes)
OK, thanks, I might also give that a try.
In researching loading I had seen frequent warnings that seating a bullet too deep (back-seating?) was more of a problem than loading towards the limit of the SAAMI spec.

2.26 is what Nosler shows.golfindia wrote:2.204 seems pretty long for that type of bullet.

Re: Couple of newbie reloading Qs (trying to avoid rookie mistakes)
The measurement you are showing is in spec at less than .3759. A good idea to double check if it is actually changing size after dropping the powder and seating the bullet. or if that is just a variation in different cases. If the case is bulging after dropping powder and seating the bullet it's po...

Re: Couple of newbie reloading Qs (trying to avoid rookie mistakes)
Drop the empty brass into the gauge before loading. That should catch the 20% you speak of. Run those through your sizing die and retest with the gauge. If the 20% are already loaded but they fit your chamber, you could just shoot them. Usually the "bulge" is caused by an incomplete strok...
