Re: Should subsonic rounds lock the bolt back?
All that is fine as now we are talking in generalizations. A 200gr bullet might have a lower reliability rate or it may require the use of an adjustable gas block. At the same time it is blatantly wrong to state that less than 220gr will not cycle and AR which is a highly specific statement that has...

Re: Should subsonic rounds lock the bolt back?
I run 10.0gr W296 with 200gr bullets and the gun cycles fine using a standard buffer and spring. I am running a FA BCG.

Re: who has decent priced 220 grain bullets
Penetration isn't an issue with subsonics, even the ones on the lighter end of the scale penetrate impressively. My testin was done at close range so I generally did not see tumbling. I am impressed that the 208 AMAX seems to tumble on impact. IMO that makes it an excellent choice for hunting. A 150...

Re: who has decent priced 220 grain bullets
Actually an additional 25 grains is quite a benefit when you can only push a subsonic bullet so fast. Really? How so? Consider the following post from this thread: Of the 5 deer, 3 have been head shots and the other two were vital chest cavity shots and had large exits . If a 200gr bullet blows out...

Re: Should subsonic rounds lock the bolt back?
I guess I was looking for the best reliability for the 208gr Amax with my PWS piston system with the max COL/OAL for that round. I see that there are a lot of variables to think about and a lot of tweaking that can be done to a firearm. I just want a reliable round that will feed from a standard ma...

Re: Should subsonic rounds lock the bolt back?
You can get lockback with 200 grain bullets in some or most guns. But I would avoid less than 220 for a factory load which needs to be reliable when dirty, cold, in a gun with a spring that is at the max end of the spec, etc. So, for a very specific set of circumstances (ie a whole train of bad con...

Re: who has decent priced 220 grain bullets
If you read this forum a bit you will see loads of people successfully running 200gr subsonics or even lighter.

Re: Should subsonic rounds lock the bolt back?
He last time I took Robert's advice he was wrong and I had to go back and correct that information after having tested it and discovered the problem. Did it ever occur that as the manufacturer's rep he may have a vested interest in that particular bit of "information" you are parroting bac...

Re: Low mass carrier
I lightened the Buffer for my 300blackout by taking out the interior counter weights and now it finctions great with my subs. Those weights serve a specific purpose as anti bounce weights to ensure reliable cycling. By removing hem you are increasing the potential for cycling problems and light pri...

Re: 300 blackout barrel lengths
With my subsonic loads I noticed a 0.1gr difference in the powder charge to get the same velocity from a 7" bbl as from a 10" bbl.
The bore size and faster powders used in the 300 vs a 223 make for much less velocity loss with a short barrel in the 300.
