Re: Setting up handloading on Dillon 550

It's interesting to note the many different ways hand loaders get to the finished product. A journey around the various sites that have reloading sub forums can be both very enlightening and mystifying. However one chooses to create quality loads, do it safely and be open to possible addition to you...

Re: Setting up handloading on Dillon 550

Yes, sizing die on the 550, 30 carbine powder funnel that's adjusted for the the amount of bell needed for coated/plated bullets. Lee FCD set to basically remove the flair with very light crimp on the case neck. Jacketed bullets are run with setting with a bit less in the crimp die as well, results ...

Re: Setting up handloading on Dillon 550

I have cut and formed most of my 2K + brass in the Hornady die. All prep is done to the brass following the forming and final trim. I use the Dillon 550 to run all steps just like pistol calibers. If I'm doing some small test samples, I still use the 550B. When setting up to load a quantity, the bra...

Re: New guy here, have a question

I use the Hornady die set, this was the only local dies available at that time. No complaints, forming and resizing have produced some great ammo. On my Dillon 550 I added the Lee Factory crimp die for use on some loads. Welcome aboard, lots of great help here, spend some time in the load data and o...

Re: CCI #41 primers vs CCI 400

In regard to the CCI #41 primers.... I could not ever justify the cost above what I could pay for standard stuff, nor was I able to discern any appreciable difference in results. Sourcing the 41's locally was a near doubling in price over all others. If ya like em, use em. A really nasty carbon hole...

Re: 125gr Supers

I also like 300-MP, similar to H110 without the 'you went too far' pressure of H110. Underrated for supers, meters great, decent ES and SD numbers. Nice shooting load at 20.0 grains under 110 gr Vmax, 2.050, LC converted brass and Rem 7.5 primer. As always, work your way into someone else's data. Fo...

Re: 230 gr cast polycoat subs

I got that mold to work just OK. Bought a bit to open up the base to .310, doing away with the stupid boat tail base and and plunge down about 1/2". This will also remove the tumble lube area. Gotta work mo betta than it does now. If not, meh, buy a good mold for real.

Going back and perusing the reloading posts in this section would sure help you get a feel for asking the right questions and how to absorb all the good stuff therein. Much to be gotten from a study of the force....

Re: Welcome to the forum

I have found the 300 BLK to be a tinkerers joy and closing on 50 years of hand loading has made it less of a learning curve compared to some new to the disease. There was some exposure to 300 Whisper in years past and some of that sub data was kept in a file. The introduction of so many new possible...

Re: Does Play between upper and lower and accuracy?

In all of the many builds we've done only one was a challenge in accuracy. The barrel was from a reputable maker, just didn't quite finish up well. The accuracy of almost all basic AR's is at least 1 MOA with good ammo and technique. Two things result in really nice shooting rifles: good barrels and...
