Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK

Dellet, construction of said corral to start immediately! No shortage of the Wapiti, nor the orange suited ninjas seeking to fill their freezer. The last Elk for me was a spike, this was all I had a tag for, but my partner bagged a fat cow with his tag. I used to work for a outfitter, worked my arse...

Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK

Very encouraging indeed! I need to get my hands on some Shooters World, never tried it before. Hope to find a local hand loader who has a sample for me to trade into, otherwise it's the mail order freight/hazmat route.

Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK

Dellet, thanks for the expansion tests! I'm looking forward to testing the 150 GD in my RARR. I made a drop tube of 16" out of some copper tubing, initial testing seems to compact 1680 a bit more than without the drop. 2200 fps would be darn ideal, just not sure if that will be possible in this rifl...

Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK

Dellet: I was aware of the black powder drop tubes, dabbled in the smoke pole cartridges a bit. I guess I should have said what I was thinking...what to make a drop tube out of. The arrow shaft is a good idea, this got the brain munching on just what I may have handy. Hardware store trip is likely. ...

Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK

Good info on this bullet gents! I have 4 boxes coming next week, free shipping from Midway. It sure seems to me that 1680 is the place to start, it has always provided great accuracy in subs and supers. CFE works fine, just haven't quite found it to be as versatile. Now, how does one make a 12" drop...

Re: Help me love the 300BLK

I hear the 'why BLK' question quite often from most who do not hand load. To really appreciate the wide range of possibilities in projectiles, loads and their respective uses, this round all but dictates one be schooled in the dark arts. Shooting nothing but factory loads is fine, an expense some ca...

Re: When Blackout blows up, or "Why I get anal about inaccurate or misleading posts".

Dang!, So sorry this happened, but glad you are not damaged. I had a reloading discussion with a newbie over the last few days about the 90 gr XTP. He was all excited that he clocked 2100 fps in his 10" AR pistol!! No, we will not be attaching my can to see how 'quiet' the load is....duh. We have be...

Re: Which RARR?

A shootin bud has used a round file to remove about an 1/8" from the front of the mag to accommodate his various cast loads. I did so on one of mine and it helped with some of the flat point cast/coated we make. The 208 Amax and similar profile bullets feed pretty smoothly. A bit of break in of the ...

Re: There are still doubters.

A day late to this amusing thread. Lewis&Clark's expedition surely had 300 Win mags for all the game they needed to harvest with their various black powder rifles. Heck, they even killed a Grizzly on the Missouri at Grog Springs with the air rifle according to some accounts. I have killed White Tail...

Re: Which RARR?

The rotary mag will allow OAL of 2.260 comfortably, while leaving .005. Open Tip Match style bullets will likely drag on the tip at more than 2.260 ( mag opening on 3 samples averaged 2.260 +a few thousands. P mags would be about the same. I have both the 5.56 and 300 BLK RARR. The BLK version can b...
