Re: Couple of newbie reloading Qs (trying to avoid rookie mistakes)

Drop the empty brass into the gauge before loading. That should catch the 20% you speak of. Run those through your sizing die and retest with the gauge. If the 20% are already loaded but they fit your chamber, you could just shoot them. Usually the "bulge" is caused by an incomplete stroke during t...

Couple of newbie reloading Qs (trying to avoid rookie mistakes)

So, I've finally started into the adventure of handloading and a few Q's have come up. Here's my set up in a nutshell; 1. Lee turret press 2. Lee 300 blackout die set 3. Lee perfect powder measure (leaked H110 like a sieve), so... 4. Hornady lock n load powder measure. 5. Lee hand primer. 6. Sherida...

Impressions on Black Rain drop in trigger?

Anyone have one? I'm looking for a second trigger with a very short reset and a light break. This one seems like it will fit the bill although it's kind of tough to swallow at $165 but I'm interested in getting the opinion of others. Definitely not interested in another cheap gritty mil spec trigger...

Re: Hornady 125 SST good choice for first time reloader?

Thanks again for all the helpful newbie info. I've inquired on the availability with Sheridan of the slotted 300 black gauge, if they have it in stock I will go ahead and order it. Pulled the trigger (ha! ) on Lee turret press $99.99 with free Prime shipping from Amazon along with 300 blackout...

Re: Hornady 125 SST good choice for first time reloader?

Hey guys thanks for the extra info, I have already ordered some of the Nosler bullets but am open to getting some of the other ones to try out. Having the lighter 110 bullet is appealing to me since it's the same weight as the Barnes cartridges I would use for actual hunting and my optic won't need ...

Re: Hornady 125 SST good choice for first time reloader?

Thanks for the link, for some reason I searched their site and could only find out of stock items. This might be the bullet to go with for starting out. Cheaper by a bit than the Hornady and I will primarily be using these for practice although occasional vermin eradication expeditions are not out o...

Also, when you say Nosler just produced more, how was that discovered? They appear to be out of stock everywhere.

Re: Hornady 125 SST good choice for first time reloader?

I use Nosler Varmageddon 110 grain for plinking, they're pretty cheap and it looks like Nosler just made another run on them so you should be able to find some. Any loading issues? I had seen some comments on some other Sierra's (match kings) that had some problems getting to proper loading depth. ...

Hornady 125 SST good choice for first time reloader?

Hey guys. I'm making my first foray into reloading soon. Going to pull the trigger on a Lee turret press, Lee 300 dies, a scale and other needed doodads in the next week or so. I've got 250 pieces of pre-formed 300 brass coming from carolina brass so that I can get comfortable reloading before I sta...
