Re: Case dimensions outside SAAMI minimums-what's the risk?

It's not likely you'll have any particular extraction issues. Upon firing, your short-headspace rounds will expand once again to match your rifle's chamber dimensions... and then will spring back a bit. Assuming the rounds ignite at all - note dellet's comment - the first risk you face is a bullet b...

Re: Gorilla Barnes Bonded Soft Point

No experience with it. But if you're going to use it for hunting my first question would be about the bullet. Many .308 bullets "fit" the 300 Blackout, of course. But most of those were designed for the faster velocity .308 Win and .30-06 cartridges, and may perform poorly when used in the somewhat ...

Re: Hornady manual

Yes... except that the powder manufacturers will naturally present their data from the perspective of their own powders. If you're looking for a broad overview of different powders, by different manufacturers, you won't find it there. Most of us start with a bullet. A particular projectile. We then ...

Re: Hornady manual

Load manuals from the bullet manufacturers - Hornady, Speer, Sierra, Nosler, Berger, etc. - typically only list load information for their own projectiles. And so, yeah, those of us who do this much tend to end up with a whole lot of different manuals. And, sure, you can compare same-weight bullets ...

Re: Berry's 220gr Subsonic load workup using SR4756

Well, here's a rough snapshot of what Herco looks like. Berry's Bullets are also not in the Quickload database, but their website shows the 220 gr. .308 bullet (SKU #21019) as 1.350" in length. Using Nosler's 220 gr. Semi-Spitzer as a starting analog, but then modifying the bullet length to match Be...

Re: Berry's 220gr Subsonic load workup using SR4756

Alas, Quickload doesn't have SR-4756 in its database. Probably because that powder was discontinued in late 2014. My "One Book/One Caliber" compilation of 300 Blackout load data also doesn't have any reference to that powder, probably, again, because the powder was discontinued shortly after the car...

Re: Help needed on a 300BLK reload

Sounds like your handloaded rounds are being misshapen somewhere in your loading process. It could be your gun - but the fact that your other handloads (and your factory rounds, per your previous posts) chambered and fired okay would strongly suggest that it's your latest creations. Do you have a wa...

Re: 110gr Barnes TAC-TX and CFE BLK Load Development

Aye, looks like it would be difficult to go over-pressure with CFE BLK with the 110 gr. Barnes. Assuming a 25.1 gr. H2O case capacity (reasonable for most headstamps), an ever so slightly longer bullet length of 1.175 (versus the 1.170" spec'd by Barnes, and the default in the Quickload database), a...

Re: Virgin case vs fired case headspace

Joyce Hornady would be turning in his grave. And there's a bit of irony... in that Hornady is the firm that sells the comparator that I'd venture 90% of handloaders use to gauge their headspace. For comparison, the lot of virgin, unfired Norma brass I've been using comes in at 1.083. And Barnes' fac...

I'd give them factory ammo. But not reloads.
