Welcome. I'm also new here though not new to the AR. I'm still figuring things out with my 16" carbine gas length. I can't answer most of your questions.

On a side note, I have a 16" with carbine length gas and it doesn't cycle heavy unsuppressed subsonics. Regular gas block. I don't care that much as I plan to just shoot supers but it would have been nice to run anything. It'll cycle some 200gr but not 220gr. That sounds like a load issue more...
