Re: Hornady 190 sub ?

I did load up some VMAX 110 grain bullets, and they worked just as well as the 110 grain SP bullets, but not really any better in my opinion. Since the SPs are cheaper I just use them. A subsonic round is still pretty noisy. You don't get the supersonic 'crack' of the bullet breaking the sound barri...

Re: Hornady 190 sub ?

So did you try the 190 subs on hogs? Nope. I shot some subsonics back before the Hornady 190's were available and when I observed that they weren't as quiet as I'd hoped, I switched over to the 110 grain Hornady SP bullets. The energy differential (amount of hurt they impart) is rather significant....

Re: Hornady 190 sub ?

I agree with the above comments. I hunt feral hogs with a 300BLK and initially thought I would use subsonics. They're not as quiet as Hollywood makes them out to be, and they definitely carry less energy than supersonics. I'm now using 110 grain Hornady SP bullets with a suppressor, and that seems t...

Re: Lightweight BCG for a 300 blackout pistol?

I'm not knowledgeable enough to really answer the question, but might it make more sense to go with a lighter buffer if overall mass is suspected to be significant? It's probably cheaper to change the buffer if some adjustment is needed than changing out the BCG.

Re: Deer ammo

I use a 300 BLK for hog hunting. I'll admit that hog hunting and deer hunting are slightly different, in that if I hit a hog and it runs off no one is too concerned. Be that as it may, I keep most of the meat so I'm very interested in recovering the hogs that I shoot! I use a 110 grain Hornady SP bu...

Re: Another One Down —

Yes. They can carry some diseases, such as brucellosis, so I always wear nitrile gloves when cleaning one. Basically, normal precautions apply. Most of the meat from the ones I shoot ends up as ground meat, which I use just like ground beef with the exception that it's really too lean to make a good...

Another One Down —

Saturday evening at the farm. The sorghum was harvested a couple of months ago, so the field is mainly stalks now, making visibility pretty good. Sundown was about 6:45PM so I got out around 6:30PM to set up. It was a cloudless day, so the sunset wasn't particularly spectacular, but this photo gives...

Re: 300 blk zero assistance

Not directly answering your question, but it depends upon the ballistics of the round you're using. That is, a 150 grain bullet with a muzzle velocity of 1800 fps will drop faster than a 110 grain bullet with a muzzle velocity of 2400 fps. Both will drop less than a subsonic 220 grain round. What ar...

Another Boar Down with the 300BLK

This one was either short and sweet, or downright boring. It depends on how you feel about these things. This was my last hunt on this property, at least for a while. The owner is spending more time there and basically doesn't want a couple of Olde Fahrtes hanging around using the property as a hunt...
