Re: Source for inexpensive subsonic bullets?

Hornady makes a 225gr HPBT (#30903) that I use for my heavy subs with H110. Big Supply has them for $27/100, which is where I usually get them. If you have an adjustable gas block and oversized port, 175gr M118's/SMK's/NCC's can often be found cheap and work well.

Re: So...bad rifle or just bad ammo (RARR)?

Why do you find the Sheridan slower? Is it not a slotted gauge that you have? The slotted should be pretty quick to use a finger to pop the brass back out. I am always interested in hearing customer feedback, in case there is something I can improve on the gauges. It's slower because it so darn acc...

Re: So...bad rifle or just bad ammo (RARR)?

Answering several replies and hoping some of this discussion is useful to Solstice who revived this thread... I agree that an excessively long chamber should be corrected and not compensated for with long ammo. I guess this calls for a set of go/nogo gauges for Solstice. All my cases are dropped in ...

Re: So...bad rifle or just bad ammo (RARR)?

Solstice, I'm going to second rebel's advice. Every, and I do mean every, failure to fire I've experienced has been due to excessive headspace. When it happens I take the round home and drop it in a slotted Sheridan gauge. They always fall below the minimum. This is all handloaded ammo with CCI 450 ...

Re: So...bad rifle or just bad ammo (RARR)?

Check the extractor. Remove the extractor from the bolt. Be careful not to loose the ball bearing or spring. Youtube for how. If the "ears" that hold the extractor in the slot are little triangles, tell Ruger that you want a new extractor, ball and spring. The new one should have wider ear...

Re: Destroyed my barrel with Magpul ZEV block

I had to remove a break installed with Rocksett recently. I'm sure this has been done before, but it's worth repeating. Make a barrel vice by clamping two small blocks of southern yellow pine together and drilling a hole cross grain through the joint. Use SYP because it's strong, sticky compared to ...

Re: RARR won't chamber first round...

I'm sure others will chime in with more detailed info. I've experienced this problem and it has to do with the gap between the lips on the magazine. Some mags are to tight and hold on to the cartridge base too long. This causes the tip of the bullet to pop up too high and hit above the breach. The s...

Re: Adjustable Gas Blocks Seizing (both Syrac and SLR)

What about nickel anti seize? That would probably work as well. The anti-seize suggestion got me to researching and I discovered that these compounds are nothing but small metal particles suspended in a carrier. The goal of these products is to prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals a...

Re: Adjustable Gas Blocks Seizing (both Syrac and SLR)

The Honda Moly 60 Paste that I have was discontinued recently. The accepted substitute is their M-77. Just google "Honda M-77". I suspect that any high moly content, high temp product would work as well. Please note that the jury's still out on my problem. This looks promising, but I won't...

Re: Adjustable Gas Blocks Seizing (both Syrac and SLR)

Back from the range testing the MoS2 grease. I was playing it safe and initially checked the screw frequently. The last string of fire was 35 rounds and the "stick" was no worse than with the initial 10 round sting. Future range sessions will be needed with longer intervals between adjustm...
