Re: New to reloading / questions

I use the RCBS set for 308, they are good. My BO set is Lee - still does the job. Get the Lee FCD for crimping - just remove the flare bell. RCBS seater set to NOT taper crimp. Taper crimp pushes down on the mouth and can bulge the neck to cause chambering problems. Only stuff I taper crimp is 9mm a...

Re: Loading cast Lee 160 grain

I shot PB 145gr to 2100 fps with accuracy but as I have a couple boxes of hornady GC now I just use them. Little bit softer alloy for them.

Re: Longest 300BO barrel?

My carbine (BO) is 18" 1:10. Don't think anything longer will provide an improvement. vamx 110 runs 2100 but not pushing it. You do have more powder space but really slow powder needed. My 24" 308 gives an improvement over carbine but really slow powder (varget or slower) and much more powder space....

Re: Basic Casting Manual

Yup, forget the manual. Get a melter, some alloys and mould. Heat the mould up to ~ 400F before casting and make sure sprue plate is hot enough. Then practice. Ask questions on any bullet casting site for fine details. You are NOT baking a cake - most any method will work. If you are looking for cas...

Re: Help with bullet weight and uses.

I shoot 145gr GC cast PCd in my 1:10 carbine, works fine. ~2k fps. so 100 yd shots work great. Longer range 125 sst or 110 vmax. I use 170 gr cast PB PC in the pistol ~ 1400 fps for nice PCC 50 yd performance. H110/W296 work but watch top & bottom end loads, they can be spiky. Haven't had problems w...

Re: Cfe-Blk

Light loads of cfe blk is filthy. Prob 14gr will work for you. Seating shorter than 2" (if ogive will allow )will bring up pressure so it's not too bad. If you can find some 2400, 8.5 gr will be sub, 10gr will be ~ 1500 fps. Not too dirty. I got 9gr cfe pistol to cycle my 10" BO. 4227 & Rx7 also wor...

110 vmax is decent and not real expensive.

Re: Loading cast Lee 160 grain

3031 was for the RD? Rl7 is another one that works. 10 gr a2400 worked with 150gr PB PCd. 8.5 2400 gave 900 under 170 FB. Need to bump it a bit.

Re: Home defense bullet options? Bullet #1 for readiness and #2 for training?

Kinda tricky question. You use a can so quiet - pretty much subs but need light to keep penetration down and work gas. Not much choice. Maybe the Hornady 100 half jacket with 6 gr A2400? Pressed lead nose. I'm using a 170 cast over 8.5gr A2400 - about 357mag performance. Bang (kinda quiet) and a big...

Re: Loading cast Lee 160 grain

CW - you try lancer mag? I shoot the 31-172c much like the rd, Works fine. I don't use pointy cast - not worth the bother.FP has lower BC but even does good in 308 @ 200.
