Re: advantages of 300 blk over 308

I think (not positive) Outlaw State bullets makes a 308 case that has the powder capacity of the 300 Blackout. I have the company name on my other computer, will know for sure Monday. I googled Outlaw state bullets, and didn't see a case like that. I may have overlooked it though. When you find the...

Re: advantages of 300 blk over 308

People are mentioning it but I'll continue. When shooting SUBSONIC you will be hard pressed to find any real advantage of doing so with a 308 over a 300BLK. Why? -When SUBSONIC, both rounds fly at the same speed so no distance or trajectory advantages gained from a 308 -The 300BLK was built from th...

Re: advantages of 300 blk over 308

Thanks for the input everyone. I knew that people stayed away from subsonics in semi 308's because of cycling problems, but I assumed there must be a reason that people were not doing it in bolt guns for some reason or another. I think I'll probably buy the 308 first, since I already have a 300 blk ...

advantages of 300 blk over 308

Hi everyone, I'm a big fan of the 300 blk cartridge in Ar's, so I've been thinking of buying a bolt gun for hunting and a more quiet suppressed gun. I've also been thinking of buying a 308 host for my suppressor to hunt with. Then it hit me that I should be able to load subsonic Lehigh ME's in a 308...

Re: C.O.L issue?

Your bullet would be getting marks on it at the ogive, not the tip if sticking in the rifling. Marks on the bullet forward of the ogive are from the round contacting the feed ramp/extension/chamber during the loading process. If you are having to force open the bolt to remove the case because of a ...

Re: C.O.L issue?

Glad you got it fixed but I would wait to work up a accurate load until I had the suppressor on it. Once you make sure the bullet is stable add the suppressor and fine tune the load. Adding the suppressor can cause a change in barrel harmonics there for groups. So I wouldn't load up many without te...

Re: C.O.L issue?

How long is your brass? the first edition Hornady manuals had a mistake and listed trim length as 1.390 instead of the correct 1.368.
My Hornady manual shows the length at 1.368, and my brass measures 1.360. I think that would be in the acceptable range, correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: C.O.L issue?

So, I have an update. I'm home now, and I have checked every dimension that Hornady list in my reloading book against my cartridge. Every dimension was pretty much spot on. I went back to my press, and adjusted the seating die to seat the bullet a few thousandths of an inch deeper. Now the bullets s...

Re: C.O.L issue?

Thanks for the quick replies. JJH: There were some light scratches on the tip of the bullet, that is what lead me to believe that the bullet was sticking. The OAL did not shrink or grow after being chambered. I will mic the case neck, and base when I get home. Is there anyway to check headspace with...
