Re: Doe Report

I’m like you, I love grilled heart and hate when I mess it up. At least you have some nice back straps to throw on the grill.

Congrats on the freezer full of venison.

Re: AAC MPW 9” SBR with 7.62-SDN6

Being a two stamp setup, the market might be thin. An idea would be to sell the upper separately, remove the lower from the NFA registry to sell it, and then work on sale of the SDN-6.

Re: Terrible Underwood 194gn Max Expansion

Maker ammo is good stuff. I ordered some 350 Legend ammunition from there a few days ago. He called personally to update me on it as they had just gotten in the copper and were starting to turn the bullets. Definitely a class act. If you still want to shoot the 194ME, I think Lehigh itself has some ...

Re: Terrible Underwood 194gn Max Expansion

I’ve never tried the Underwood ammo, but have shot the same 194ME bullet loaded by Beck Defense (https://beckdefense.net/) and gotten good results. My blackouts are all 1:7 but I don’t know if that matters. I think 1:8 should do fine with the 194s. I also shoot the Hornady and get good results like ...

Re: awful experience with Smith and Sons Meat Processing in Mt.Pleasant, MI

Hey plant, that stinks for sure. You have to wonder how much meat they skim off everyone’s order to have some stock “in the back”. Try Kelly’s Deer Processing in Big Rapids. I went there all the time when I hunted Mecosta County. They were always great, and make heavenly teriyaki hunter sticks! http...

Re: 2019 hunting results

Hey plant, good to see your family’s success. Full freezers are a blessing. I can hear the bacon grease sizzling with backstraps in it. I shot a big doe opening day and got another in September that was hit by a car. My freezer is happily full, too. I might shoot one more if a good opportunity pops ...

Re: Poaching

That chaps my ass.

I could not care much less if someone shoots a deer in order to fulfill a need for his/her family. I know some families that have had to do that and I might have even helped one or two.

But to waste one of God’s animals solely to put a rack on a wall is a sin.

Re: factory ammo recommendation

Supers I like the Barnes 110 or 120 grain loads, or anyone’s loads using these. For subs, try Lehigh Maximum Expansion loads (I get mine from Beck Ammunition) or Maker Bullets’ Overwatch loads. If he tries the Discreet, tell him to shoot a bit without a can, I tried them early on in several of my ri...

Re: 2019 Hunting Trip and Processing

Hey TBM,

It is always good to hear about a full freezer. Congrats to all three of you on a successful hunt.

Sounds like you all had good, fast kills. Bullet placement again carries the day!
