Re: Lee 309-230-5R not stabilizing

Do not size them down to .309". Try leaving them at the size they come out of the oven at. I have shot the Lee 230 out of a 10 twist and at 25 yards they are definitely stable. I have not had a chance to tr them at 100 yards but bullets cast from my 240E mold, which weigh 247 grains, are stabl...

Re: Lee 309-230-5R not stabilizing

Were you using the same powder as the previous rounds fired? Wondering that if you were getting 1093 with a jacketed round that your current cast rounds are going supersonic now with maybe that one round being subsonic - that would account for a drop outside the normal group but not so much for a k...

Good idea- I haven't run any through a chrony yet but it sounded subsonic and the same charge gets me 1093fps with a 220SMK.

Now if only I could get some help from the weather so I could set up my chronograph...

Re: Lee 309-230-5R not stabilizing

Was the barrel cleaned prior to shooting? What sort of rounds were shot before testing these loads? Barrel was very clean because I was checking for PC residue to confirm that my coating process was working. No evidence of the PC to date, btw. Prior to the rounds I described above I fired the other...

Re: Lee 309-230-5R not stabilizing

May have been a void in the boolit. Not much you can do but clean up your casting practices. If you are using a bottom pour pot keep the mold the same distance from the spout, pre heat your mold with a hotplate, and use a PID or similar controller to keep your alloy temperature consistent. If you a...

Lee 309-230-5R not stabilizing

Recently decided to give casting and PC a whirl for subsonic BLK projectiles. After a few sessions I had some boolits that looked pretty good - judged by surface and base inspection. I also separated them by weight before the PC process. 228gr was the weight of the best looking boolits and I used a ...
