Re: New 220 Nosler BT' Range Report... Problems.

Nap, thanks for your detailed experience. Where I live I am limited to AR2205/H4227, AR2207/H4198 and Trail Boss (super-quiet subs) for this calibre. There is some Winchester and Reloader powders available from time to time but the ADI/AM powders are always available and the cheapest in this neck of...

Re: New 220 Nosler BT' Range Report... Problems.

Ok let's sort out this powder issue so we can concentrate on the Nosler220 BT. I have been using the USA designation for Australian powders so you guys know what I am talking about, however it seems there is some confusion as to 4227.As I understand it H4227 was discontinued a few years ago when Hod...

Re: New 220 Nosler BT' Range Report... Problems.

Klem, whats your barrel length and gas system? I’m surprised 4227 would not work, what other powders do you have available? 12.5" pistol length gas 1:7 twist Rainier Ultra Match. It's not the powder, it will be something like twist rate or exhaust gas on a bullet that is close to unstable to s...

Re: New 220 Nosler BT' Range Report... Problems.

OK, ongoing testing results with the new Nosler 220 Ballistic Tip... I tried a faster powder H4227 and as suspected it does not cycle the action. Even if it solved the group sizes I can't use a gun that does not cycle. It did reduce group sizes but produced groups bigger than the 220Sierra Match Kin...

Re: New 220 Nosler BT' Range Report... Problems.

Have any other sub rounds you can try to see if they are doing the same thing? the hornady 190 subs are out now so should be easy to get some. I know your hand loading these but a commercial round could help figure this out if your barrel is bad. As I said earlier in the thread, my usual sub load i...

Re: HD Weapon light? 600 lumens or 1000?

Never can have too much light on a gun. Obviously go with the 1,000 lumen, as long as its beam is narrower than the other. With LEDs they tend to be more spill than throw compared to other types of emitters like HID's found on spotlights. Truth be known you can put one together reasonably cheap on K...

Re: New 220 Nosler BT' Range Report... Problems.

Here's the next instalment in the 220NBT saga...another 30 rds unstable at the target 100 yard away. This is ten shots bench-rested using a red dot scope at 100yds with no suppressor. A 6-MOA group tumbling through the target. Velocity; 1,030fps. I unscrewed the die and screwed in the seating stem o...

Re: New 220 Nosler BT' Range Report... Problems.

Damage to the tip is one theory. The other is a lack of concentricity from the factory (exacerbated by fast twist barrels). I don't see any visible damage to the tips from my Forster seating die. That said I have backed out the body and screwed in the seater to compensate. I'm not ruling anything ou...

Re: New 220 Nosler BT' Range Report... Problems.

http://i.cubeupload.com/CS18uW.jpg Here are the first results again (new image hosting platform) The bolt closes with minimal effort at 2.14" (54.5mm). These loads are 2.08" (53mm). The jump to lands was .06" although given the inconsistency of measured bullets some jumps were closer...
