Re: Well crap....
Let's put it this way. Has anyone successfully used cast bullets in the 125 gr to 150 gr range in an AR with a 1/8" twist. If so how. Cast bullet RPM is limited to around 140,000 rpm. Above that you start to have problems. With a 1/8" twist that would limit you to a velocity of around 155...

Re: So I just melted down 50 pounds of useable bullet
Wheel weights are still readily available and reasonably inexpensive around here. The buckets are range scrap, all jacketed pistol bullets. The copper jackets get scrapped after the lead is melted out of them. With the money collected from the scrapped jackets I've more than covered my 3K+ lbs of le...

Re: as cast vs HF red powder coat. speed diff.
Question can I speed up this load? Dont see any high pressure signs on cases primers? Fed fine from usgi 20 rd mag locked back bolt. I found about the same speed increase with the Lee 155 bullet, ~ 50FPS, powder coated vs lubed. I would consider switching to 1680 if you want to work this load up. T...

Re: Just a reminder about new molds
While not essential it does help ensure that the alignment pins take a "set" and help prevent them from walking out under use.

Re: SHOP REPORT: Warning!!! In case anyone else tries this
Your oven temp is higher than you think it is. What happened is you heated your bullet to the "slump" stage; the stage right before they melt and go liquid. When you dropped them into the water they fell apart and deformed from the impact. I bet if you check your oven it's closer to 450 de...

Re: Cast bullets with polygon rifling?
I haven't shot any in a rifle but I run cast bullets through my Glocks without issue or leading.
As with any other gun or rifling, fit is the key to success.

Re: Looking for a good supersonic mold
Thanks guys for the replies. The first 2 molds( the Mihec and Lyman), are there any issues with them sticking in the throat of the chamber? Jailer, isn't that basically the same as the ctl312-160-2r mold but with standard lube grooves? Are you having to seat yours deep like the one I have? Excess 6...

Those look fantastic for your first attempt.
Be careful, casting can become very addicting.
