Re: Optimum barrel length?

I was thinking that an 8 inch would be good for pigs within 50 yards (with a suppressor). Do you think that is a good idea? Thom IF within 50yd, I think 8" would be fine. Based on my calculations of retained velocity vs bullet maker's velocity recommendation for expansion and actual performance on ...

Re: Adjustable Gas Block settings questions.

With adjustable gas blocks and the Blackout, you just never know until you experiment with your setup (and keep notes as mentioned by others). For example: With my PRI gas block (no "clicks", you just turn the adjustment screw in or out, so all settings mentioned are screw turns counter clockwise fr...

Re: Challenges cutting down 556/223 and forming to 300 blackout

When I form Blackout cases (using a Redding die) vs resizing after firing already formed cases, I found I had to have the sizing die in different positions for the 2 tasks. Specifically, when forming, my die has to make firm contact with the shell holder. When resizing, I have to have the die 1/2 tu...

Re: Really light load or new rifle?

I would think about the .243 with say Nosler Partitian bullets or Barnes copper bullets for deeper penetration and mild recoil. You already posted the .243 has the accuracy. Note: I've never elk hunted, but have shot hogs and went with the Barnes bullets in the 300 Blackout for deeper penetration on...

Re: Good deer killer

I use an old Nivysis Utac 32m that I used to use on a rifle as a hand held. I have lost count of the deer I have found with it. Also handy for spotting deer just before the sun comes up or after it sets or walking to and from the blind in the dark..

Re: Suppressor for RARR

Both my RARR's like the thread-on CRUX Ark30. The Gemtech Quicksand quick mount suppressor, while quieter with its longer size, did not give as good of accuracy. However, since you'd be shooting some gas check lead bullets, I'd recommend a suppressor that you can take apart to remove the lead that w...

Re: Jacketed loads with H110 & 2400

Both my RARR's like this load: 18.9GR H110, NOSLER 125GR BT, LC BRASS, CCI 400, 2.2” OAL, no crimp One my RARR's gives 2278FPS average with the above load. The other gives 2160.9FPS average with the above load. While they both like the same loads, one has always been faster than the other, from a li...

Re: Ruger SR-762 accuracy issues.

I have the SR556 (Takedown 5.56 and the 300 Blackout conversion bbl). FWIW, both the SR762 and SR556 have now been discontinued. It took a lot of testing before I found a load that shot OK (to me, 1 1/2" 5 shot 100yd groups) in the 5.56 caliber. Repeated trips to the range were required. With the 5t...
