Re: Contender SBR

I did one 15 years ago. I also did the engraving on the bottom of the frame, either side of the trigger guard.

I just used a set of hand stamps and a mallet.

Re: Thompson Center's Contender or now the G2

One other note: T/C also made a factory .300Whisper/Blackout barrel. These have a slower 1:10 twist barrel, and will usually only stabilize bullets up to 180 gr. or so. For the 200+ gr. bullets you want a 1:8 or faster twist.

Re: Thompson Center's Contender or now the G2

They're a great platform. I built an SBR back in 2003-ish using an SSK 300 Whisper barrel. It's still one of my favorite calibers. Most of the highlights have been hit already: * Can use quieter powders that won't cycle a semi auto. * Can load longer than typical magazines allow. * No action noise b...

Re: Shot some groups with N110 today...

Going to the desert means at least a 6 or 7 hour investment. And in the winter time I have to do it on a Saturday since I still work and it's dark at 5 now, which means I have to take the weather that comes along with it. But first, I have to load my targets/stands/shooting bench/chrony/guns/ammo/e...

Re: 300BLK sucks for IDPA

Well yes I suppose that is true except our course of fire involved movement and we (RSO) definitely don't want to be too close to rifle ejection ports as they can be "vicious" in slinging brass and basically don't want to get anywhere near the business end of a rifle. As noted by others, ...

Sounds like my experience trying to get 147s to run subsonic using H322. Lots of unburned crap everywhere! (they would cycle sometimes, though  )

Re: 180 gr subs?

They run fine in my AR using H110, but I've got an older Noveske .300FB barrel. It's got a pistol-position gas port, and I suspect the port is larger than what you will find with current 300BLK barrels. I bought a bunch of Speer HotCor 180 gr. bullets a while back for blasting ammo, but accuracy was...

The 90 gr. XTP are .308". The 85s are .311. No sizing needed on the 90s, but when I tried the 85 without sizing, it would not not chamber.

Re: 86gr projectiles?

I've gone as low as the 73 gr. (I think) HBWC from Berry's, ran through a .308 sizer die in the Contender. Those didn't shoot very accurately, but the 85 and 90 gr. XTPs work great, and still expand at subsonic velocities. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/GarrettJ/Reloading/photo_zps1401b41d.j...

Re: Thompson Contender Barrel

I am getting ready to SBR my Encore, where did you engrave the receiver? As in the location on the receiver not the company that did the engraving. On the bottom, on either side of the trigger guard. I just used a set of letter punches. It looks a little better in person, but nobody is going to acc...
