Re: First whitetail with blackout
110 Vmax's expand perfectly moving 2150 fps for me. I killed 2 deer with them this past weekend. Smaller deer was a pass through, insides were jello. On the larger buck, the bullet was trapped under the far side skin after it destroyed the heart.

Re: Loud subsonic rounds
Get some VVN-110 and start at 10 grains and work your way down. My load with a 208 Amax is 8.6 grains. Less of a faster burning powder is quieter than more of a slower burning powder to get the same velocity, and with a bolt action you don't need slow powders to cycle the action.

Re: Hornady .309 90gr. XTP bullet testing...
I really don't believe in screwing with primers. If one primer is "hotter" than another, the same effect could be had by increasing the powder charge slightly. Once the powder is lit, I doubt it matters. People will argue this just as they argue about flash hole deburring and a number of o...

Re: Elk Hunting...
2 nights ago I shot 2 pigs with a suppressor and NV scope. They were running across a field at less than 100 yards. My load is a 110 V-max at 2100 fps. We could clearly hear hits vs. misses and each pig (150 lbs and 200 lbs) soaked up 5-6 V-max's before hitting the dirt. We obviously didn't get any ...

Re: Hornady .309 90gr. XTP bullet testing...
When I originally developed the 4.8 grain load, it was with a 10" barrel, and velocity was right at 1000-1050 fps. Velocity was not as consistent as most other subsonic loads I tried, but it was accurate. http://www.quarterbore.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5470 I'll be experimenting with the 110...

Re: At what point does a muzzle device become a suppressor?
The thing that makes a suppressor evil is that its one and only use is for assassinating people. If the sound is directed down-range, the person being assassinated now knows that he/she has just been shot, which is the opposite effect of those evil suppressors. On a more serious note, the flaming pi...

Re: Hornady 208 A-Max Issue - ***Pics***
Sorry, didn't see the previous pages after the first before I replied. Anyways, I too switched to the VLD specific seating stem from Hornady on my 6.5 Creedmoor, and while it still leaves a ring on the bullets, it's not nearly as bad as the original seating stem. I still think you could hang the 208...

Re: Hornady 208 A-Max Issue - ***Pics***
All of my Hornady dies leave a ring on my bullets, in 6.5 CM, .223, etc. HOWEVER, your seating depth appears to be way too deep with 208's, which is causing the deformation. Those things are way down in the case, and you are likely compressing powder. 208's aren't ideal for 300 BLK using factory mag...

Re: 300 AAC 16 in upper, tight chamber or ammunition problem
I've had a similar problem. I can take the same piece of pre-formed brass that wont chamber, run it through my sizing die, and it chambers fine. Mine was due to the shoulders not being set back enough. Note that unfired shoulders are round and fired shoulders appear sharper. I think the person formi...
