Keeping a can on the rifle.

I understand that there are some issues in keeping a suppressor on a rifle after a range trip, because of condensation. But after things have cooled down, does anyone keep their can installed while in the safe? Reason I ask, is that we have a 4 legged pest problem around here. I could get away with ...

Point Blank Range for 300 Blackout Subsonic and Supersonic?

I suspect that it's less than 100 yards for subsonic, perhaps double that for supersonic? What would be good numbers to input for projectiles in the 180 to 225 grain range? Maybe 3" above and below the bore line?

Any input appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Re: Barely supersonic vs. a little bit pregnant.

In the photo, that's not a representation of "air" but of "sound". So, there are two disturbances made, one thru the air and one to the sound if it's speed is exceeded? Sound is air pressure waves. As a supersonic bullet moves through the air a cone shaped air pressure shock wav...

Re: Barely supersonic vs. a little bit pregnant.

I see. So once the bullet breaks the sound barrier (upon exit of the muzzle) then the cone is at it's flattest and continues to broaden out until the bullet slows back under the speed of sound and then the sound wave is perpendicular to the nose of the bullet. And then the subsonic crack will lead ...

Re: Barely supersonic vs. a little bit pregnant.

The supersonic bullet creates a supersonic shockwave that we experience as the "crack." This shock wave is the sound, the bullet doesn't outrun the shock wave and run silent in front of the sound. http://www.galex.caltech.edu/media/images/glx2007-04r_img06_small.jpg I have some formal tra...
