With digital calipers, base to tip measures between 1.295 and 1.300 inches. Couldn't find the length on Hornady's website.

Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
Thats quite short actually. Especially compared to the LeHigh. Interesting. Thanks
Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
In general a solid copper bullet will weigh only 75- 80% of a jacketed lead core bullet the same size and shape. An example would be the 240 Sierra Match King at 1.590” vs the 194 Lehigh at 1.525”.
That doesn’t apply so easily to length because of profile, but It’s a good thing to keep in mind when looking at published data and switching bullets.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.
Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
I should be getting 300 sub x bullets in the mail today and I need to work up some loads.
I have h110, and 4227 on hand and will start with 4227 as its what I load 95% of my 300blk with.
My current barrel on my 300 is an 8.3 iirc, it does not cycle fully with the loads that work in my 10.5 barrel.
I am going to start with 10.5, 11 and 11.5 grain loads and see if any of them are subsonic and will cycle my pistol. I do have a chrony so I will be testing that as well. I do think my gas port is small, because even factory remington 220's will not chamber the next round 50% of the time.
Does anybody have an idea for h110 loads, as I have never even loaded one round with it yet.

Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
I now have 200 Sub-X bullets, plan to load half of them for a 10.5” AR with A1680 and half for a 16” RARR with IMR4227. Looking fwd to your results with 4227.
I don’t mess with H110 for subsonics, but it is great in SuperSonics.

Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
Ok first I did drill the gas port out to .102 and it did not lock back. Bumped it up to .107 I get full cycle but not lock back. Gun is dry I need to lube it that may make a difference also the temp is low 30s. Gun is a 8.3 I think a cmmg barrel factory port was right under .1
So at 10.5 velocity is 1160s. At 11 is was 1185 ish. So based on that I am going to try 10 and 9.7 that should drop it to 1100 to 1130 ish.
No suppressor

Of if the chamber will allow it, move the bullet out .050".scottyfz6 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 12:32 pm Ok first I did drill the gas port out to .102 and it did not lock back. Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
Okay follow, and why use work down and use a chrony.
10 grains of 4227 is 1116 fps, extreme spread was 3, two where the same fps
9.7 grains was 1018-1021.
Its funny how 10.5 grains was 1160, 10 grains was 1116 or a little over 40 fps then 9.7 was 1018 so a .3 grain was 100 fps.
Load length for those that care was 2.085 iirc to the middle of the cannelure.
Still not getting lock back with the gun dry but no jams, full cycling. Air temp is about 32 degrees so the speed of sound for those who care 1085 fps.

Work down so you don't stick one. As you noted, (think you said funny) a little makes a big difference.
You can't beat the mountain, pilgrim. Mountains got its own way.
Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
Another reason to get a quality scale and check weights. Also a good AC power line conditioner and/or UPS power converters to reduce the noise causing drift on digital scales. If your scale can barely maintain +/- 0.2gr you're garanteed to have huge ES/SD ...
